Overview

The System Administrator, Amazon Web Services role is responsible for migrating and implementing the service in Amazon AWS cloud to further improve the reliability and performance of the service. 

 

The Data Center Operations (DCO) team is responsible for the uptime of Stamps.com’s online services. The department is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining hardware and software solutions required to provide 24x7 highly available web services. We ensure that our services are secure, performant and, highly available. 

 

Stamps.com is the leading provider of Internet-based mailing and shipping solutions. Stamps.com’s PC Postage service enables small businesses, shippers, enterprises and consumers to print U.S. Postal Service-approved postage right from their home or office with just a PC, printer and Internet connection. The Company currently has PC Postage partnerships with Avery Dennison, Microsoft, HP, the U.S. Postal Service and others. Stamps.com also sells PhotoStamps which enables customers to create fully customizable and valid PhotoStamps postage that contains their own digital photograph or business.

Responsibilities

Primary Objectives:

  1. Create and design solutions for migration of on-site Data Center infrastructure to Amazon AWS
  2. Architect and design solutions for Windows deployments
  3. Participate in on-call rotation

Essential Position Duties:

  • Leverage Amazon Web Services (AWS) knowledge to create and design solutions for migration of on-site Data Center infrastructure to Amazon AWS, including Active Directory, Windows IIS services, databases etc.
  • Architect and design solutions for Windows deployments, upgrade, management strategies, tools and processes for end to end deployment and management of servers/services in AWS. 
  • Participate in on-call rotation (approximately 1 week per month) as well as some after hour evening and/or weekend work

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS in CS, EE, CIS, MIS or Mathematics from a 4-year university or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more (5+) years’ of Windows system administration and engineering experience supporting a production environment in Amazon AWS.
  • Extensive experience with Active Directory forest/domains (trust, site and services, group policy), IIS, DNS and other Microsoft/AWS solutions.
  • Extensive experience writing scripts using Powershell.
  • Hands-on experience with designing and deploying in AWS: Active Directory, AMIs, automating deployment of EC2 machines in specific security groups, subnets, VPCs, Elastic Load balancers, S3, auto-scaling, Route53, Windows/SQL clustering and other AWS tools following best practices to create a resilient, performant and highly available enterprise application.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cli tools and APIs.
  • AWS Solutions Architect/SysOps certifications are a plus.
  • Experience working with DataDog, Splunk is a plus

 

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Well developed and demonstrable understanding of Computer Science principles, IT project management (waterfall/agile), basic networking concepts and OSI network layers.
  • Well versed in Windows Server 2008/2012 administration tasks, such as installation, configuration, management, lock down, security, patching and updating, Group policy.

  • Amazon AWS

  • VPC, subnets and VPC peering
  • Elastic Load balancers, Target groups and auto-scaling
  • S3 storage buckets, lifecycle
  • Route53
  • Windows/SQL clustering in AWS
  • Scripted provisioning of EC2 machines
  • Powershell (AD, AWS APIs)
  • DataDog, Splunk is a plus
