Overview

The Tax Manager is responsible for driving the strategic and compliance functions of all things tax at Stamps.com.  As a key member of the Finance & Accounting team, you will collaborate with Senior Management, internal stakeholders, and external experts to establish and implement best practices to support overall planning and compliance for US Federal and state income and indirect taxes.

Responsibilities

Primary Objectives:

  1. Compliance - Establish efficient systems and processes for timely income and indirect tax compliance
  2. Strategic Planning – Develop strategies which legally minimize risk and exposure through informed application of tax laws and regulations
  3. External Reporting and Internal Controls - Lead SOX compliance for tax function and ensure GAAP financial statement disclosures are accurate 

Essential Position Duties:

  • Federal and State Compliance
  • Coordinate Federal and multi-state income tax compliance, including quarterly estimated payments and annual return filing
  • Manage monthly and quarterly sales tax returns and payment
  • Prepare and review other state and local business filings, registrations and other forms
  • Liaise with tax authorities and external consultants to manage tax audit and controversy process
  • Strategic Planning
  • Perform modeling of tax reform/business changes and related impact on federal and state taxes
  • Project anticipated applicable tax rates to be used in business forecasts
  • Provide internal tax advisory services and support on business operations and ad-hoc business initiatives
  • Direct nonrecurring tax projects involving external experts (e.g. Research & Development credits, Sec. 199, etc.)
  • Stay on top of federal and state law changes and interpreting how these changes will impact the Company’s business
  • External Reporting and Internal Controls
  • Manage quarterly and annual consolidated income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740, including analysis, quantification, and memo documentation of uncertain tax positions
  • Draft financial statement footnote disclosures in accordance with US GAAP and prepare supporting memos
  • Assist with SOX compliance including developing and monitoring internal controls within the tax function

Qualifications

Required Education and/or Experience:                                                   

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related discipline; CPA and/or Masters in Tax preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of tax experience in public accounting  and/or corporate tax department
  • Experience with US GAAP tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740 and ASC 740-10 (FIN 28) and ASC 450-20 (FAS 5) and related disclosures 

Experience in the following areas’ is highly preferred:

  • Tax strategy implementation
  • E-commerce or SaaS industries
  • Tax implications of mergers and acquisitions 

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to build consensus among multiple parties
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills 

Computer/Software/Application Proficiency:                                                     

  • Highly proficient with Excel and other MS Office products
  • Proficient in Microsoft SQL, Data analytics and/or NetSuite software a plus
