    Stamps.com is seeking a Data Center Operations Operator (DCO Operator). The Data Center Operator serves as a technical resource to support the company’s online services. The role performs a variety of activities involving the design, planning, installation, operation, and maintenance of the data center operation.This role is responsible for providing afterhours monitoring, support and escalation for the Company’s production environment. This position works within the Company’s Data Center Operations group and reports to the Manager of IT. 

     

    The Data Center Operations (DCO) team is responsible for the uptime of Stamps.com’s online services. The department is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining hardware and software solutions required to provide 24x7 highly available web services.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Objectives:

    1. Perform monitoring of the Stamps.com services. 
    2. Handle level 1 support tickets.
    3. Proactively discover and escalate issues before they impact customers.
    4. Perform other projects as directed by management.

    Essential Position Duties (typical monthly, weekly, daily tasks):

    1. Perform monitoring of the Stamps.com services.
    • Closely monitor service status and performance and email detailed monitoring reports at interval established by Data Center Operations management
    • Assess performance metrics against established baselines and perform the initial investigation of any performance metrics that indicate a problem
    • Perform scheduled on-site visual and audible monitoring of data center and supporting infrastructure (smoke, fire, red/amber led on equipment, audible alarms)
    1. Manage level 1 support tickets.
    • Respond to and perform level 1 troubleshooting for all production alerts including issues relating to Windows, IIS, Linux, hardware, power, cooling, SAN and more.
    • Escalate issues that cannot be immediately resolved through standard operating procedures.
    • Consistently follow procedures, protocols and policies for handling incidents.
    1. Proactively discover and escalate issues before they impact customers.
    2. Perform other projects as directed by management

    Qualifications

    Preferred Education and/or Experience:  

    • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in IT.

    Skills and Knowledge:

    • Ability to demonstrate deference to policies and procedures.
    • Meticulous when working with production servers, equipment and space.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong analytical, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to changes and new ideas.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate well with different types of audiences.
    • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
    • Ability to demonstrate urgency when there are customer impacting issues.

    Computer/Hardware/Software/Application Proficiency:  

    • Windows, IIS, Linux, hardware, power, cooling, SAN
